Day 4 Yuck

Sick again Day 4

I guess I haven’t listened to body as well as I should have. I think I have been trying to eat solid foods too quickly. So today I am going to do what I most likely should have done last Saturday, better late than never, today totally clear liquid diet! Yuck, I hate that but if I must, I must.

My doctor called this morning and next Monday when I have the CT Scan done, they are going to use an IV contrast instead of having me try to drink the horrid medication. I think this is a great idea.

Great scott, I have become destructive in my old age. I bumped into a water pipe in the basement and it sprung a leak. I have called my home teacher to come help. Thank goodness for good people who will help in a moment’s notice!

I have notice a change in the swollen lymph nodes in my neck in the last few days. And today I notice that after I eat dinner it felt like half of what I had eaten was sitting in my throat just above my “adams” apple. Tomorrow I am going to call and leave a message for the doctors about this change. I have no idea if that could be part of my eating problem or not. But I was told that if I noticed any change in those nodes in my neck to say something right away so I will do what I am told.

Best to all.

Three days of rot

Round 2 three days of rot

Well, today ends three days of feeling rotten. Yea, having trouble keeping food in me but it is getting a little better each day. Thankfully I don’t let days like today define me.

I am looking forward to feeling better in a day or two and then get back to really living my life.  Now, if any of you know of foods that will stay down when I am going through this stuff let me know. I have four more rounds to get through.

Today Brooke picked me up some ensure light and that tastes good and stayed down. So I know I am going to keep that in the house for the future. The other stuff is too thick and creamy to tolerate.

I have spent most of the day in bed so there is nothing really interesting to tell you about so I will close.

rotten Sunday in June

Today I started trying to teach myself how to tie scarfs around my bald head. A dear friend sent me a link to a youtube video on how to do it. The video is great and I really think I am going to be able to do this. I have already tried the first one on the video and it came out pretty good. So just maybe when I go out now with scarfs on my head I will not look too funny.

Today I got the CD of the pictures taken last month in Forest Park before I had my head shaved, along with pictures of my granddaughter Rachel’s baptism. All of them are great and over time I will slowly post them on Facebook and my blog. But today just isn’t a day to do that.

The Chemo has had me flat in bed almost all day. Tomorrow I am supposed to have a contrast CT scan and I had to drink a special medicine tonight, which didn’t stay down. I have to drink more in the morning. I hope enough of the stuff is in me to allow the scan to work.

Rats & Double Rats

Rats and Double Rats

It feels like the chemo is going to make me sick sooner this time than it did last time. Lunch and I didn’t agree. What is really bad is there is a Church Social that I want to go to tonight. But maybe I will be able to go. I will wait until 5 pm to make that decision. (it is only 2 pm now).

I am really hoping I can go. I would really like to get to visit with my friends from Church. We are all so busy on Sunday’s that we don’t get to just talk then, and I have not been able to stay for all the meetings cutting back even more on getting to say hi to my friends. But the night is not over.

Although I may be down for the evening I am not down for much more than that, I won’t allow that. I will listen to my body so that I can get back up and out as soon as my body will allow.

I find it totally amazing how much ones attitude can do to change one’s health. I am so blessed to be given the gift of looking at life and seeing the glass half full instead of half empty.

Staying home need to be my option tonight but that is okay there will be other Church Socials that I will feel up to going to.

I just hope the Young Women’s had a good turn out this was a fund raiser for this summer’s girls camp. They were going to have a “Potato” Derby, (using a potato instead of a pine wood derby car). There was a $5 entry fee and then they were having a silent desert auction.  The goal is to have enough fund raisers to be sure all of the girls can afford to go to camp for the week this summer. I think it sounded like a great deal of fun and a great cause. I hope my granddaughters did well. Three of them are old enough for girl’s camp this year.

Tonight Yaya won the coconut cake that Brooke baked for the silent auction. Sadly by accident one of the girls’ dropped the other cake before they could get to Church. But everyone says they had a great day. Tomorrow I am going to take photos of the potato “cars”. Best to everyone.

Olive Garden Friday

Olive Garden Friday

Today I was taken out to lunch again, while I can still eat. I expect that next week the chemo will catch up with me and food and I won’t agree again. But till then I am enjoying. A bunch of us went to the Olive Garden and had a great visit.

Then we ran a bunch of errands and it is now 9 pm eastern time and I feel like it is midnight. Oh I feel old right now. But the house is now nice and quiet. So I am going to relax and see if I can sleep.

I look forward to another great day tomorrow. I keep getting great creating cards that give me hope and encouragement. What a joy they give me.

Three of the granddaughters got a surprise today they saw me for the first time since I shaved my head, they were stunned and speechless. One of them is very hard to shut up so it was funny to see her speechless.

They girls have some very good questions wanting to know why I shaved my head and how it feels to have it shaved. We have some great talks and they seem to be trying to understand what they can about what is happening to my body due to the cancer.

One of the nurses in the hospital gave me a great explanation of what was happening in my lungs with the blood clots. She compared them to a road block and that until the road block (blood clot) was gone my blood had to take a detour to get all the way to the lungs to exchange the bad air for the good air. I think even the 9 year old understood it. I wish I remembered the name of the nurse that gave me that explanation because it is such a simple one for children to understand. She really blessed me by sharing it with me so that I could share it with my grandchildren.

I also tried to help them understand why it is important to talk with your doctors and to follow their instructions so that you can help to take care of yourself and in my case maybe even prevent trips to the hospital. Which we all agreed was a great thing to do.

I pray that I am helping to not only educate them but to take the fear of my illness away as much as that can be done. It is amazing to me how the Lord will provide you with knowledge if you will open your mind to learning.
